A Mail Truck Carrying Tons Of Absentee Ballots Has Gone Up In Flames!

A U.S. mail truck reportedly carrying dozens of absentee ballots caught fire in southwest Georgia on Monday.

“According to law enforcement officials, the mail carrier was not injured, but the vehicle and the mail it contained were completely destroyed,” The Gateway Pundit stated.

From the Baker County Sheriff’s Office:

A vehicle fire in the 1000 block of Pretoria/Tarva Rd. claimed the jeep and a lot of U.S. Mail. The mail delivery driver was unharmed. The Newton Post Office has a list of packages and mail on this particular route if you are expecting a delivery.

The Secretary of State’s office issued a statement warning ballots may have been destroyed in the fire.

“A USPS truck, according to the election’s director down there, burned to a crisp. So, we’ve already had discussions with them,” Interim Deputy Secretary of State Gabriel Sterling said during a press conference.

“There are 43 outstanding ballots in the county. We’re working with USPS to see if they have images of what might have been on that truck, to reissue them.”

Record Early Voting Turnout

A relatively high number of Georgia residents have cast their ballots during the state’s early voting phase of the 2022 midterm elections, surpassing the 2018 election early vote totals.

In a statement on Twitter, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced that more than a million votes had already been cast in the state as of Oct. 25.

“Election officials deserve our thanks for rising to the challenge [and] working hard to serve our communities,” he wrote.

During the Oct. 25 briefing, Sterling also said Georgians are continuing to cast their votes in record numbers. The deputy secretary of state noted that on Oct. 25 alone, 100,000 absentee ballots were received, while 124,000 Georgians voted in person.

Georgia currently has highly contested elections for governor and one of the state’s Senate seats. Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican, is facing off against Democrat Stacey Abrams, while Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) is being challenged by former NFL star Hershel Walker, a Republican.
