Arizona Gov FORCED To Declare State Of Emergency!

On Tuesday, Arizona Governor announced that he will dispatch National Guard troops to the southern border in response to a recent increase in migrants being apprehended by the Border Patrol.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey is blaming Biden for surge in illegal crossings and will deploy 250 National Guard troops to the southwest border in Arizona

“The U.S. Border Patrol is overwhelmed. Local law enforcement and mayors are calling out for help,” the Republican said Tuesday in a recorded statement. “Citizens and our border communities are concerned for their safety and nonprofits, left to pick up the pieces of broken federal policies, are strained.”

In relation to this year’s rapid increase in arrests of people crossing the border illegally, Arizona is the first state to declare an emergency. Border Patrol agents made about 168,000 arrests at the border in March, compared with about 71,000 in December.

The media release noted that U.S. Customs and Border Protection saw more than 170,000 apprehensions at the U.S. southern border in March, nearly 19,000 of which “were unaccompanied children — more than four times the number of kids apprehended in March 2020.”

“The situation in our border communities is just as bad—if not worse—than the coverage we’ve been seeing,” the governor said in a statement.

He then hit out at the Biden administration’s failure to act on the crisis, saying:

“It’s become evidently clear that Arizona needs the National Guard, and the White House is aware of that. Yet, to this day, there has been no action from this administration, and it doesn’t look like they are going to act any time soon. If this administration isn’t going to do anything, then we will.”

Fox News reported that Ducey’s move is supported by both the state’s Democratic U.S. senators, Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly, who wrote a joint letter urging fellow Democrat President Joe Biden to reimburse their state for the deployment of the Guard.

Sen. Mike Kelly (D) issued a separate statement saying, “”There is a crisis on the border and I have pushed the administration for the additional resources, staffing, transportation, and the testing necessary to provide a secure, orderly process that does not fall on Arizona communities.”

“In visiting the Yuma Sector and speaking with Border Patrol and other local leaders, it’s clear that their resources and staffing are strained,” Kelly continued. “There are important missions that the Arizona National Guard can perform at the border and the governor calling them up will provide assistance to both local law enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security.”

The governor said the state would allocate $25 million to fund the National Guard mission. He didn’t say how long the deployment would last.

The Department of Homeland Security didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Texas deployed as many as 500 National Guard troops last month as part of a broader surge of law enforcement at the border, but the governor didn’t declare a state of emergency.

Former President Donald Trump order ordered thousands of federal troops and National Guard troops to the border at the start of the last surge of illegal immigration in 2018. He later declared a national emergency at the border. Troops have remained at the border under Mr. Biden.

National Guard troops were also previously deployed to the border during the administrations of Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.

Arizona isn’t the first state to send the National Guard to the border. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) sent troops to the border in early March, though he didn’t declare a state of emergency.

Biden ended that emergency order but has kept the Guard presence at the border. The Pentagon said last month that the troop deployment could be extended past an expected fall end date.

The Arizona troops won’t conduct law-enforcement operations, as has been the case during previous deployments. Instead, the troops will help with medical operations inside detention centers and installing, maintaining, and monitoring a state-operated border camera network, Mr. Ducey said.
