Mike Pence is a traitor, as we already know, but he appears to be shooting for a gold star in being a traitor.
Pence stated on Wednesday that if invited, he would consider appearing before the House of Representatives committee looking into the so-called attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Pence’s advisers claimed to the panel in June that former President Donald Trump pressured the vice president to reverse his loss in the 2020 election.
Pence has stated that he thinks Trump was mistaken to think the vice president had the authority to change the election results, which were being certified by Pence and lawmakers at the time the Capitol was attacked. Trump has vehemently refuted all accusations.
During a speech in New Hampshire, Pence stated that he would give any request to testify “serious consideration.”
Pence told those gathering for a “Politics & Eggs” breakfast at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire that he would have to think carefully about any invitations made to him.
A request for comment on Wednesday did not receive a prompt response from a Jan. 6 committee spokesperson. In June, committee members said they were debating whether to compel Pence to testify.
On Wednesday, Pence stated that calling a vice president to testify on Capitol Hill “would be unparalleled in history.”
According to the U.S. Senate website, Schuyler Colfax, who served as Ulysses S. Grant’s vice president from 1869 to 1873, voluntarily testified before a House select committee in January 1873.
The website lists six current and former presidents who have spoken before legislative committees.
