Every once in a while, we all have someone in our lives that we were convinced that the last time we heard from them that we would never have to deal with them again.
Mine was someone that I knew in high school that I ran into when visiting some family where I grew up. The guy was an even bigger pain in the butt than I had ever could imagine remembering him as, but we ran into him one night when my wife and I were at dinner with my family.
What I thought was going to be a quick hi and hello turned out to be a nearly half hour long conversation that I was alsmot to the point of chewing my arm off to get away from.
Paul Ryan is a guy like that, you hope that the last time you saw him was the last time you saw him, and then he turns up again when you least need or want to deal with someone like him.
Just when you thought Fox News could not step in it any worse than they already have … enter Paul Ryan, a member of Fox News’ board.
It has been widely reported that Paul has been actively pushing Fox News to break ranks with Trump, something the network has seemingly listened to in large part … which has not bode well for their reputation among what used to be their base.
Ryan, who ‘served’ as the willing dupe Speaker of the House … back when the Republicans controlled the chamber and before that as Mitt Romney’s failed running mate is sticking his head back into the fray, taking the same side at Mittens Romney did recently.
The Gateway Pundit opined:
‘Former Speaker of the House and 2012 GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan (R-WI) issued a statement Sunday afternoon blasting Republicans who are planning to challenge Biden electors when Congress meets in a joint session on Wednesday to certify the vote of the Electoral College, saying, “Joe Biden’s victory is entirely legitimate.”
One dozen Republican senators and a reported 140 GOP Congressmen have said they will challenge electors when Congress meets Wednesday.’
Paul Ryan, the man who was caught on tape essentially, in my view, sabotaging Trump’s effort to defeat Hillary in the 2016 election, had the audacity to say the following after Democrats spent Trump’s entire presidency suggesting ‘Russian hacking’ was what got Trump elected.
Apparently, all of a sudden Paul is concerned with people questioning the election results … with way more tangible claims than Mueller or the coup crews ever had.
‘All our basic rights and freedoms flow from a fidelity to the Constitution and the rule of law. This principle is not only fundamentally American but a central tenet of conservatism. Under our system, voters determine the president, and this self-governance cannot sustain itself if the whims of Congress replace the will of the people. I urge members to consider the precedent that it would set.
Efforts to reject the votes of the Electoral College and sow doubt about Joe Biden’s victory strike at the foundation of our republic. t is difficult to conceive of a more anti-democratic and anti-conservative act than a federal intervention to overturn the results of state-certified elections and disenfranchise millions of Americans. The fact that this effort will fail does not mean it will not do significant damage to American democracy.
