Are you familiar with the “Select Service System”?

Well, let me explain what it is to you — the SSS is a federal bureau that keeps track of US men ages 18-25 for military purposes.

Here’s what it says on their website:

 It’s Your Country Take one minute to protect it. When you register with the Selective Service, you’re helping ensure a secure future for your community and the United States of America. While there is currently no draft, registration with the Selective Service System is the most publicly visible program during peacetime that ensures operational readiness in a fair and equitable manner. If authorized by the President and Congress, our Agency would rapidly provide personnel to the Department of Defense while at the same time providing an Alternative Service Program for conscientious objectors.

Federal Law requires nearly all-male US citizens and male immigrants, 18 through 25, to register with Selective Service.

And they seem very, very anxious about getting people registered right now, and the timing couldn’t be more suspicious since most believe, based on what’s happening with Ukraine and Russia, that we’re a sneeze away from WW3.

But why would registering non-us military men matter so much right now?

Because our military recruiting numbers are in the toilet — many suspect the reason why is “wokeness.”

The military is struggling to find recruits to fill its ranks. Some branches have responded by offering tens of thousands of dollars in signing bonuses, while the Army says it is so far behind its recruitment goals for this year that it is unlikely to catch up.

The lingering question is, why aren’t people signing up?

While the official reasons given by the military — including fewer face-to-face recruitments during the pandemic and fewer young people who meet the physical standards required — likely play a role, some say it’s because the military is too “woke,” turning off its normal constituency of young, conservative recruits.

According to a recent Gallup poll, trust in American institutions is down across the board. When asked how much confidence they have in the military, 64% said a great deal or quite a lot, which means the military is still one of the most trusted institutions in the country. But that number was 69% last year, so there was a five-point drop in confidence in just one year. With politics ripping at the seams of institutions once held in high regards — like the Supreme Court, schools, and the healthcare system — the military may face similar headwinds.

But what does that mean for American war readiness?

In an email to Deseret News, an Army spokesman described how tough recruiting new soldiers had been this year.

“The Army is facing its most challenging recruiting environment since the all-volunteer force’s inception in 1973,” said Brian McGovern, deputy director of public affairs for U.S. Army Recruiting Command.

The Army is only 52% of the way towards its recruitment goals for this fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30. McGovern said the Army expects to face 12,000 to 15,000 recruits this year.

The tweet says: “Parents if your son is an only son and the last male in your family to carry the family name, he is still required to register with SSS.” They then direct people to a link where they can register.
