Two San Diego anti-gang police officers shot — one fatally — suspect in custody as manhunt continues for second shooter

Two San Diego anti-gang cops were shot, one fatally, during a downtown shooting late Thursday, authorities said.

One person was taken into custody after the 11 p.m. attack, which came shortly after a traffic stop. Cops are still hunting for a possible second gunman.

The wounded cop was rushed to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery, officials said. He is expected to survive.

Neither officer has been identified, but police said both men served on the department’s gang suppression unit, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

“Keep them in your prayers,” San Diego police wrote on Twitter.

There was no immediate word on what touched off the violence in the Southcrest neighborhood, in the southeastern part of the city. The pair of cops had pulled over a car just before calling for back-up and emergency response.

As police searched the area for the other suspect, they urged residents to stay inside.

The shooting comes as law officers around the country remain on alert following the killing of officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, La., this month.
