Following proof that monkeypox had arrived in the United States, Biden’s regime ordered millions of doses of the monkeypox vaccines.

As disclosed on Wednesday, Bavarian Nordic, the biotech company that makes the vaccine, has announced a $119 million order placed by the U.S., with the option to buy $180 million more if it wants. If the second option is chosen, the total number of doses will be around 13 million.

Existing smallpox vaccines, which are also effective against monkeypox, will be converted into freeze-dried versions with a longer shelf life. The converted vaccines will be manufactured in 2023 and 2024, the company says.

Since 2003, Bavarian Nordic has collaborated with the US government to develop, manufacture, and distribute smallpox vaccinations. It claims to have given the Department of Health and Human Services almost 30 million doses thus far.

The U.S. isn’t the only country stocking up on the vaccine. On Thursday, Bavarian Nordic said an unidentified European country had secured a contract to obtain the vaccine.

Paul Chaplin, president and CEO of Bavarian Nordic said in a statement, “While the full circumstances around the current monkeypox cases in Europe remain to be elucidated, the speed of which these have evolved, combined with the potential for infections beyond the initial case going undetected, calls for a rapid and coordinated approach by the health authorities, and we are pleased to assist in this emergency situation.”

Monkeypox is a viral disease first discovered in 1958 among colonies of monkeys that were being kept for research. The first human case was recorded in 1970. Symptoms in humans may include fever, headache, body aches, swollen lymph nodes, chills, and exhaustion. Within a day or a few days of the fever, patients then develop a rash that spreads across the body. Up to 10% of infections result in death.

On May 7, a person who had gone to Nigeria, where monkeypox is endemic, was diagnosed with the recent outbreak in Europe. Over 20 instances have since spread across England, Portugal, and Spain. Other potential cases are being monitored now.

On Wednesday, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) confirmed a single case of monkeypox in an adult male who had recently traveled to Canada. The health department said the case “poses no risk to the public” and that the individual is hospitalized in good condition.

“DPH is working closely with the CDC, relevant local boards of health, and the patient’s health care providers to identify individuals who may have been in contact with the patient while he was infectious,” the DPH said in a statement.

And six other people are now being monitored. Late Wednesday, CDC epidemiologist Andrea McCollum said she isn’t worried about outbreaks, but that more instances in the United States are probable.
