In recent weeks, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman’s health has been a topic of concern. According to reports, Fetterman’s team has not been fully transparent about the state of his health, including his past depression and a recent hospitalization for the same. Furthermore, Fetterman reportedly suffered a debilitating stroke last May, and his health has been declining ever since.
Despite Fetterman’s low profile after being sworn in as senator on January 3, recent photos and videos suggest a decline in his health. In November 2022, Fetterman’s collar was loose, indicating weight loss, and photos taken three months apart in November 2022 and February 2023 show a significant change in his appearance.
Fetterman’s recent hospitalization in February was initially reported to be for lightheadedness, with his spokesperson stating that all tests came back negative. However, it was later revealed that Fetterman was diagnosed with depression and advised to seek treatment from the Capitol physician, who recommended that he be hospitalized for clinical depression.
Back in October, John Fetterman’s campaign released a note from a doctor, who donated to his campaign, that granted him a clean bill of health and said that he “can work full duty in public office.”

Fetterman’s wife Gisele also took to Twitter to reveal that she left the country with their children when he was hospitalized on February 15.
Reports indicate that Fetterman’s depression may be treatment-resistant due to his pre-existing condition and that more aggressive treatment may be necessary, which can take several weeks or months.
Fetterman’s stroke last May has also taken a toll on his mental health, leaving him with a physical impairment and serious mental health challenges. Despite accommodations made to help him adapt, Fetterman reportedly finds the transition to the Senate difficult due to unfamiliar duties that are taxing for someone still in recovery.
Fetterman’s campaign donor doctor gave him a clean bill of health in October, and some have criticized his team for not being fully transparent about his health. While Fetterman’s Chief of Staff Adam Jentleson downplayed the severity of the situation, reports suggest that Fetterman’s health is in a fragile state.
Fetterman’s health issues have raised concerns among the public, and many have criticized those who put him in this position. With his health declining, Fetterman is currently living alone in a Washington apartment during the week and driving four hours home to Braddock, Pennsylvania, most weekends to see his wife and three children.
