After AOC stepped up to a hot mic, she began quietly discussing Senator Joe Manchin, but it backfired pretty badly for her.
Of course, this is all coming on the heels of President Joe Biden and his failure to he Build Back Better Act passed by this Christmas, and it is all due to one man: Joe Manchin of West Virginia.
This was a wise decision from Joe Manchin and it was due in part to the concerns he had over even more debt and future inflation. His stand saved this country from that, at least for the time being.
But don’t tell that to his fellow Democrats, however. They now think that the man is public enemy number one.
This is where New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez steps in. She made it very clear in her Monday appearance on MSNBC that she and other Democrats had “every right to be furious with Joe Manchin.”
Fox News is reporting that Manchin told host Bret Baier last Sunday that he was not going to support the bill because there was no way that he could defend the vote to his constituents.
“I have always said this Bret, ‘If I can’t go back home and explain it to the people of West Virginia, I can’t vote for it,’” Manchin said. “Despite my best efforts, I cannot explain the sweeping Build Back Better Act in West Virginia and I cannot vote to move forward on this mammoth piece of legislation.”
Of course, Ocasio-Cortez attempted to attack this piece of legislation and was going to gaslight it as best she could, but all she did was embarrass herself in the process.
“The idea that Joe Manchin says he can’t explain this back home to his people is a farce,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I mean it’s a farce in terms of, you know, plain democracy, because I represent more — or just as many or more — people than Joe Manchin does.”
According to AOC’s website, she represents the 14th District of New York, which has a population of 650,000 individuals.
In contrast, the population of West Virginia was 1,792,147 as of July 2019, and so yes, Joe Manchin does indeed represent more people than AOC. Apparently, Ms. Cortez can fib with the best of them.
But wait, you say, aren’t there two Senators in West Virginia? Yes, my liberal friend, that is indeed true, but they both represent the full population. This is how the U.S. Senate is always set up, and it is why both the senators are determined by statewide elections. So, even if AOC is not lying, she needs to go back to her community college political science class for a refresher course.
Either way, it’s hard to fathom where Ocasio-Cortez is coming from, because even if Manchin TRULY DID just represent just half, that would still be MORE than her representation because he would represent nearly 900,000 people.
Whatever the case might be, AOC’s claim that she represents “just as many or more people than Joe Manchin” is demonstrably false. And no, it’s not that Joe Manchin would have difficulty reaching that many people, because he could just go on the local television news station to do that. Instead, Manchin meant that he takes representing his constituents seriously and that there is no way that he can justify voting for this bill with them.
Simple as that. Manchin cannot support this spending spree because it wouldn’t represent the interest of his constituents.
Let’s not let AOC’s temper tantrum cloud our judgment. She needs to go back to bartending. Manchin is a man of integrity who couldn’t abide this hideous spending spree.
