You wouldn’t believe the world’s richest person is in a way homeless!
Tesla CEO Elon Musk whose net worth is about $269 billion revealed a very interesting tidbit about his personal life in a recent interview with TED’s Chris Anderson, the billionaire revealed that he currently does not own a home and sleeps in friends’ spare bedrooms!
Musk admitted during the interview that he currently does not own a home and that when he travels to his various businesses, he stays at the homes of friends and associates.
Musk said:
“I don’t even own a place right now. I’m literally staying at friends’ places. If I travel to the Bay Area, which is where most of Tesla’s engineering is, I basically rotate through friends’ spare bedrooms.”
“I don’t have a yacht, I don’t take vacations,” the Tesla CEO added.
The Billionaire was responding to a question about wealth disparities around the world and how much money billionaires spend.
“I think there’s axiomatic flaws that are leading to that conclusion. It would be very problematic if I would be consuming billions of dollars a year in personal consumption, but that is not the case,” said Musk.
“It’s not as though my personal consumption is high, with the one exception being the plane. If I don’t use the plane then I have fewer hours to work,” he added.
In 2020, the billionaire had tweeted his intention to sell all his possessions and that he would “own no house”
However, last year The Insider reports that Musk’s primary residence is a rental from SpaceX worth $50,000.
He also admitted to owning an “events house” in the Bay Area.
According to Forbes, Musk has a net worth of $269.5 billion. He is currently making headlines for his offer to purchase the microblogging website Twitter.
The Insider reported:
Musk said that he had a backup plan in the event that Twitter rejects his $43 billion bid, but declined to share any details.
During the live event, Musk said that it’s possible he may not be able to acquire the company, but said he could “technically” afford it.
“I have sufficient assets,” he said, without giving further details. Most of Musk’s personal fortune is tied up in his stake in Tesla.
