HOLY COW! Tom Hanks Has Spoken Up About Tim Allen’s Exile From Lightyear…

Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks spoke out about Disney and Pixar’s decision to cast Chris Evans in the “Toy Story” spin-off “Lightyear” movie instead of Tim Allen.

Hanks voiced the character of Woody while Tim Allen voiced Buzz, in the original Toy Story franchise. However, Pixar opted to replace Allen and bring in Chris Evans as the space ranger’s voice in this year’s Lightyear.

In a clip from an interview with CinemaBlend, which was posted on the publication’s Instagram account, 65-year-old Hanks was asked about his new film Elvis being in theatres at the same time as Lightyear.

“I wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen, and then, they didn’t let Tim Allen do it,” Hanks told CinemaBlend. “I don’t understand that.”

Director Angus MacLane explained the character change was necessary because the Buzz Lightyear character needed to be less “goofy.”

“Tim’s version of Buzz is a little goofier and is a little dumber, and so he is the comic relief,” MacLane told Vanity Fair.

“In this film, Buzz is the action hero. He’s serious and ambitious and funny, but not in a goofy way that would undercut the drama,” he added. “Chris Evans has the gravitas and that movie-star quality that our character needed to separate him and the movie from Tim’s version of the toy in Toy Story.”

When pressed by the interviewer about Allen being replaced by the “Avengers: Endgame” star, Hanks said, “Yeah, yeah, I know.”

“But here’s the thing, just as long as people come back to the motion picture theater. I want to go back in the theater with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common.”

“That’s what I want to do. And going to see a movie with him, I’m looking forward to that.”

According to The Daily Wire’s previous report:

Allen recently broke his silence on Evans voicing the iconic spaceman in the origin-based film. He said there’s “no connection” to his famed character in the “Toy Story” franchise, though he wished there was, as The Daily Wire previously reported.

“The short answer is I’ve stayed out of this because it has nothing to do [with my character],” the “Last Man Standing” star shared. “This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.”

“It’s a wonderful story,” he added of the new movie. “It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy, and it’s a little … I don’t know. It just has no relationship to Buzz. It’s just no connection. I wish there was a better connection to this.”

Allen said that any “Toy Story” movie about Buzz must include Hanks’ character. “There’s really no ‘Toy Story’ Buzz without Woody.”
