If You Have Any Of These Items In Your Freezer, Throw Them Away Immediately…
Hot pockets are in hot water.
Nestlé Prepared Foods has issued a recall involving hundreds of thousands of pounds of Pepperoni Hot Pockets they fear could contain glass and plastic.
The recall was issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and affects approximately 762,615 pounds of Premium Pepperoni Pizza Hot Pockets with Garlic Buttery Crust. The company fears these Hot Pockets “may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically pieces of glass and hard plastic.”
The organization issued a Class I recall, meaning “there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death,” according to a press release.
These Hot Pockets were produced from Nov. 13, 2020, through Nov. 16, 2020, and were distributed to stores nationwide. As the product has a shelf life of 14 months, the FSIS said in its release that it is concerning these boxes could very well still be in people’s freezers.
The recalled products include the 54-oz, 12-count boxes of Nestlé Hot Pockets Brand Sandwiches: Premium Pepperoni Made With Pork, Chicken & Beef Pizza Garlic Buttery Crust. The packages have a “Best Before Feb 2022” date and lot codes 0318544624, 0319544614, 0320544614, and 0321544614.
The impacted packages will also have “EST. 7721A” on the label of the package.
If you discover you have one of the affected boxes in your freezer, the FSIS urges you not to consume it but instead to throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.
“Consumers who have purchased this product are urged not to consume it,” the USDA said. “This product should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
The recall went into effect after authorities received four consumer complaints of “extraneous material” in the product. FSIS has received one report of a “minor oral injury” associated with the consumption of the affected Hot Pockets.
The Hot Pockets were distributed to retailers nationwide. Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Nestlé consumer services at 1-800-350-5016.
