A newlywed couple is dead after a man fatally shot his wife in the head and then killed himself inside their Texas home while the woman’s two young children were at school.
Casey Ross, 43, made a desperate call to police from inside a closet in her San Antonio home after her new husband, David Ross, had shot her in the head and then killed himself.
Police found David dead in a hallway of their suburban home when they arrived on Friday morning and rushed Casey, an anesthesiologist and mother of two children from a previous relationship, to the hospital, where she later died.
Casey Ross’s two children, a seven-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, had been at school at the time of the domestic violence.
The couple had been married for about a year, neighbors told local media, and appeared to be happy.
“I was walking here only a week or so ago, and I saw a man playing basketball with a little girl, and I saw a woman in the garage taking groceries out of the back of the car,” neighbor Jack Verhagen told Fox San Antonio. “And a week later, I am standing in front of a murder scene. I can’t believe it.”
In addition to running her own medical clinic, Casey Ross was a contractor in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and a part-time professor for the University of Texas Medical School.
David Ross worked for Dallas-based Tolles Wealth Management and had moved into Casey’s home with her two children after the two wed.
Casey Ross’s family set up a GoFundme page with the goal of raising $100,000 for her children’s education.
