A nurse in Pennsylvania took secret photographs and videos of eight naked patients, including a 17-year-old girl, during appointments at a dermatology office (video below).
Lower Makefield police say 45-year-old James Close, of Abington, who works at Penn Medicine Dermatology, was arrested on Feb. 13 after a 17-year-old patient noticed a phone on the ground had been recording her while naked.
Investigators say they found more than a dozen videos on the suspect’s phone of the underage girl and other patients after obtaining a search warrant. Police say the videos date from Jan. 18 until Feb 13.
“It’s very disturbing. You have a trust with people in the medical profession,” attorney Matt Weintraub told KYW. ” … I’m afraid there may be more [videos]. That’s my concern at this point. We want to make sure we take care of the victims that we have. Make them feel safe.”
Originally, Close was charged on Feb. 13 with four criminal accounts, according to authorities.
However, Prosecutors gathered more evidence that resulted in Close facing 43 additional counts involving the original teen victim and seven other alleged victims, all adult women. He faces felony charges of Photographing, Filming/Depicting on a Computer as a Sex Act of a Child as well as Criminal Use of a Communication Facility, Endangering the Welfare of Children, and Invasion of Privacy.
“We’d like to make a plea to the public that if anyone was seen by this dermatological practice and they feel they may have been a victim they should come forward to Lower Makefield Township Police Department,” Weintraub said.
“We are appalled by the action of this former employee and we are cooperating fully with the investigation,” hospital spokeswoman Susan Phillips said in a statement.
Close is being held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail, according to Larry King, a spokesman for the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.
