Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is now adding 70 police officers to protect her and her properties. It seems like the “Defund the Police” advocate is using her government power to enjoy privileges that her people are lacking under her watch.
The said 70 police officers are in addition to the 20 officers who were already serving Lightfoot as her personal bodyguard.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that the said special unit called the Government Security Detail was started in July 2020.
According to the memo, the purpose of the creation of the division stated: “to provide physical security for City Hall, the mayor’s residence, and the mayor’s detail command post.”
While other neighboring cities are lacking police due to the shortage, Chicago’s mayor even dared to enjoy the privilege she’s receiving.
And do not forget that Lightfoot mandates war on her own personal minions by mandating Covid 19 vaccinations and cracking down on officers through increased scrutiny of policing actions.
Fox News reported Lightfoot’s pledge to cut $80 million from the police budget in 2020. This made police officers turn their back on the mayor in response to her contemptuous treatment.
While Lightfoot is enjoying her special protection, the rest of her city is suffering from high violence number.
It was in 2020 when President Trump had alarmed by the lawlessness that the city was experiencing and to provide help in ending the problem Trump sent federal agents to assist the police. Though it was opposed by Lightfoot at first, she then but later relented.
Lightfoot should realize to lessen her special police unit and have the others serve the community because people in Chicago deserve to live in a city with peace and not with lawlessness that their mayor is promoting.
