As a parent, there is nothing scarier to me than the thought that one of my kids could be the victim of a kidnapping.
There are a lot of really horrible people out there, and we know that a lot of them are aiming to kidnap children with the intention of selling them into sexual slavery.
It’s an unfortunate aspect of the world that we live in today.
However, there are ways to prevent stuff like this from happening.
For example, when my son was about nine I got him his first “smartwatch”. There wasn’t really a whole lot to the thing.
It was basically a digital watch with a GPS tracker that could call me and the handful of phone numbers that were loaded into it.
My wife and I could make sure that he was where he was supposed to be at all times. If he ever was off a certain path that he normally traveled during the day we would know that something was wrong.
But giving a kid a watch with a GPS is not the only way kids need to be given in order to protect themselves from being kidnapped.
One brave young man named Sammy Green was in a situation where he knew that he was about to be kidnapped and devised a brilliant plan.
This ten year old boy was going to a corner store in his neighborhood when a woman he didn’t know walked up to him and started telling him a string of lies about how she knew his dad and Sammy was supposed to go with the woman.
He is walking with the woman for a moment along the street and quickly realizes he is about to be kidnapped.
He walked into a nearby store and immediately walked up to the store’s cashier and tells her what the situation and to pretend like she is Sammy’s mom.
She immediately gets the picture of what is going on and begins walking around the store with him like a mom showing a kid where they work.
The cashier then locked the door and the attempted kidnapping was thwarted.
It was a very clever way to protect himself, and all kids should take Sammy’s example. If you are in danger, go into a store and immediately walk up to an employee.
