What Saved This Formula One Driver From A Crash That Should Have Killed Him Will…
At the British Grand Prix, Zhou Guanyu, an ALFA ROMEO driver, was involved in a terrifying collision when his car FLIPPED and slammed upside down into the crash barriers.
The horror crash happened in the first lap of the British Grand Prix 2022 at Silverstone when the 23-year-old was inadvertently hit by George Russell’s Mercedes on the opening lap, causing the vehicle to flip upside down and fly across the track before crashing over the barrier.
Mercedes driver Russell appeared to be hit from behind at the start and was knocked into Zhou, whose car went flying across a gravel trap and over a tire wall into the retaining fence.
The car was skidding on the “halo” which protects the driver’s head.
It’s a miracle that Zhou Guanyu escaped his Alfa Romeo alive.

Russell immediately rushed out of his automobile to check on his competitor, which led to his disqualification after getting out of the car.
A red flag was immediately called, with Alex Albon also involved in the incident to leave him out of the race after colliding with Sebastian Vettel.
Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri suffered heavy damage after being hit by Albon after the ex-Red Bull ace had spun into the wall.

There was nothing much left of Zhou’s Alfa Romeo, but the lone Chinese driver in F1 was reportedly conscious and scheduled for a medical test, the FIA announced shortly after the collision. Alfa Romeo later revealed the novice driver was unharmed and in “quite good” condition.
Guanyu confirmed on Twitter that he avoided serious injury after being evaluated at the medical care center.
“I’m ok, all clear,” Guanyu tweeted. “Halo saved me today. Thanks everyone for your kind messages!”
