What Twitter’s New CEO Said About The 1st Amendment Will Ruin Us All!

After the resignation of longtime authoritarian Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, dubbed as one of the world’s largest disseminators of news, he then passes the throne to Parag Agrawal  who says Twitter’s “role is not to be bound by the First Amendment.”

Agrawal, who was Twitter’s chief technology officer until the social media giant’s board unanimously appointed him to replace Dorsey.

Many people were expecting the new boss of Twitter would take a more neutral, less authoritarian approach to the flow of information on their social media platform as they have become accustomed to the unfair, one-sided censorship on the far-left social media platform.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the case now with Agrawal.

Below was one of the Tweets that Agrawal made way back in 2010:

“If they are not gonna make a distinction between Muslims and extremists, then why should I distinguish between white people and racists?” Argawal wrote in 2010.

Agrawal spoke with MIT’s EmTech podcast last November 2020 about misinformation, which is defined as intentionally false or misleading information shared in an attempt to push a specific narrative:

“You’re caught in a bit of a hard place as somebody in the audience is also pointing out, that you’re trying to combat misinformation,” Lichfield asked Agrawal, “you also want to protect free speech as a core value, and also in the US as the First Amendment. How do you balance those two?”

“Our role is not to be bound by the First Amendment, but our role is to serve a healthy public conversation, and our moves are reflective of things that we believe lead to a healthier public conversation,” the new Twitter CEO said.

Bret Taylor, Twitter’s incoming Independent Board Chair, said that “Parag understands Twitter and appreciates the Company’s unique potential,” according to a Twitter press release. Prior to being appointed CEO, Agrawal had been Twitter’s Chief Technology Officer since 2017.

“I look forward to building on everything we have accomplished under Jack’s leadership and I am incredibly energized by the opportunities ahead,” said Agrawal about his appointment to CEO. “By continuing to improve our execution, we will deliver tremendous value for our customers and shareholders as we reshape the future of public conversation.”
